Wow, great article! You helped me figure out all these plugins. I installed 5 plugins, and they duplicated each other. My site was really slow. Then I realized my mistake and started looking for advice on the best SEO plugin. Now I know which plugins I really need. Thanks)

Child themes are definitely an important topic. I personally like to create them manually, however, if you want a good plugin solution, I have used this plugin in the past: https://wordpress.org/plugins/child-theme-configurator/

Hello, I agree and disagree with your choices.

Do you not think a plugin recommendation for a child theme should be essential? You may be a pro coder and programmer but many people use a WP theme and I speak from experience that the regular theme updates require a child theme.

Please feel free to disagree with me. I am sure you know more than myself, I am new to it all.

In reply to Nick Sch"aferhoff. There are some great RBS, SSO plugins for authentication and creation and management of users. As well as import/export. Originally, I (stupidly) used my export and imported my users into the plugins import tool. All turned out well and they were trusted but still NOT recommended and not best practice. Looking back now, I would be way better off linking to the plugin or customizing it myself to allow for Google, Microsoft, and My Company domain as OAuth providers. Look into auth0 or some of the others that offer this type of service for free. Depending on your level of development, I come from a shallow .NET background where Membership was included at project file creation so I had to learn all of that which was and still is quite a feat. What are you working with now? WP user membership? or are you using a plugin for membership?

As we all know, 99% plugins do not incorporate an uninstall routine leaving behind db tables

What is needed is a plugin cleaner to remove all previously installed plugins.

Is there such a plugin tool?
