You should receive it to the email address you entered in the Contact From plugins settings.

Hey Lucy, no worries, this stuff can take a bit to understand if you have no prior experience. Let’s go over your questions step by step:

1. You can see that all the form fields have in front and behind them. These are HTML tags that display the short description that is written on top of the field. The new custom field that I added in the tutorial needs those tags as well and I simply copied and pasted the same markup from one of the other fields and then changed the text to say “How Can I Help You? (required)”. I hope that makes it clearer.

2. In the email settings you should at least make sure that incoming requests are sent to your email address (in the “To” field). That way, you can actually receive your messages because they are not saved in WordPress by default.

3. Usually, the standard email will be configured well enough. It will send you the name and email address of the sender as well as their message. In many cases, you can leave everything as is. But if it’s not up to your liking or if you need additional information (or have added more fields to the form that are not yet included in the email content), you can adjust it to your needs.

4. As mentioned, you can add the form to your website with the shortcode as shown in the tutorial (it says something like “[contact-form-7 id="252" title="..."]“, be sure to user your own). You need to copy it, including the square brackets, and then input it into the WordPress text editor for the page where you want it to appear. In the classic editor you can paste it directly. In Gutenberg, use the shortcode block.

Hope that clears everything up. Let me know if you have additional questions!

I don’t understand the “label” section. You say “all that’s left to do is add labels” and to cut and paste. Cut and paste what and to where?

And are we supposed to edit the email settings? Do we add our email address??

Are we supposed to configure the email sent to us? If yes, how? To say what?

then you say to add the form to your website. Where do you paste it into? I don’t see anywhere to paste it onto?

Sorry for all the Qs, but I am lost.

Hey Kurt, you can actually do that with Contact Form 7 as well. Here’s how: https://contactform7.com/quiz/

The suggestion for dealing with spam is not ideal as you still have to deal with spam. I want to create code in the submit button that doesn’t send an email if the quiz field value is not correct. That way, you will not get any spam bot emails.

Hey Larry, if you suspect that it is the forwarder, I would get in touch with support. They might already be familiar with that problem.

I am using ses and the public Lambda forwarder. I suspect the forwarder is dropping the content. Any ideas?

Larry

Oh, that is actually described in the post above. You need to input the shortcode for the drop-down menu somewhere in the email. Check where it says [contactpurpose] in the tutorial on top.

Hi Nick, That’s correct.

In that case, how can I know what choice customer has made?
I have created the dropdown field but I am not able to know what choice customer is making.

Appreciate if you can advice how to fix it.

Hey Tejas, if I understand you correctly, you want to add a drop-down menu to the email sent to you from the form, correct? That’s unfortunately not how it works. You can only include the input from the form in the mail body, not the form fields themselves.

How can I get the dropdown field into the mail body as I followed your steps as per above but I don’t get user’s choice from dropdown in the email body.

Hey Geoffrey, that’s very hard to diagnose remotely without any additional information. I think your best option would be to get in touch with your host’s technical support. They should be able to help you.

Hey Lesley, Elementor comes with their own form widgets that you can use. At least in the pro version. There are also plugins like https://wordpress.org/plugins/cf7-widget-elementor/ that integrate Contact Form 7 into the page builder. Hope this helps!

Very helpful and really well written. I’ve installed the plug-in, pasted the short code, etc. and it shows up nicely on the Contact page of my wordpress site. However, I am unable to get it to send the message, from any computer / other user. Hosting by eUKhost, website management through Plesk. I’ve added wordpress@{domain name} to the site email handling.

Do you have any other suggestions please?

Thanks, Geoffrey
