Hey Nithya, as mentioned in the article, in the long run we always recommend a self-hosted blog. If you need help finding the right host for yourself, we have a bunch of articles on that topic, like this one: https://createawebsitenow.com/best-web-hosting-sites/

And I don’t know much about blogging and I am in the process of learning things related to it. So, as a beginner which platform should I use – whether a free blogging or a self- hosted blogging? What would you suggest? Can you assist me in finding a right web hosting platform?
Thanks!

Hey Kofi, theoretically, you can administer and entire website via the WordPress mobile app. However, I don’t think this would be the most practical approach as you might also need FTP access (which, as far as I know, cellphones don’t have) and also because you can’t really design the desktop version of your site since you can’t see it. So, I would highly recommend you also use a computer.

Question –

Can one start a blog from scratch using a smartphone?

Thanks.

Hey Pat, if you are talking about Amazon products, you can sign up for their affiliate program. When someone ends up using your affiliate links to buy something, you get a small percentage of the sales price. Aside from that, check our article on how to monetize your website: https://createawebsitenow.com/33-ways-to-monetize-website/

I want to set up a blog, I don’t have a product, it’s a blog about grandparents role in todays world. There are some things I buy on Amazon for my kids that are good for school etc. How do you get advertisers and how do you get paid for using others links?

Hey Gary, since WordPress started off as a blogging platform, it has a comment system built in. You don’t even have to set it up, just create a blog post and it will appear by default.

Can you do that with a Word Press blog? Is it hard to set up?
Thanks.

Hey Tony, as the post mentions, we recommend getting the Domain Privacy addon since it keeps your personal information out of the WHOIS directory. Everything else is not really necessary.

Thank you for the article about how to get started with the first blog. Your Bluehost recommendation sounds brill, however when trying to sign up with them, they recommend a few extras such as Domain Privacy and Protection, Codeguard Basic and SiteLockSecurity Essential.
I understand the principle of them but are they really vital for running a blog hosted by a 3rd party?
What’s your opinion on those 3 extra features mentioned above?

Almost all WordPress themes are built with responsiveness in mind, so you don’t need to do anything extra to have your site look good on different screen sizes.

Thanks for sharing these detailed steps, I wanted to know how to make the wordpress website RESPONSIVE to different screens at the same time while building it, since most of my friends and family only have mobiles or tablet devices.

Hi George, Elementor is completely optional, you can always use the default WordPress editor instead.

Really good, informative item – thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort I know is required.

One quick question, can I build a blog/website without using Elementor, just by using Astra Pro for example?

All the best
George.

Hi Michael,

1. Yes, WordPress is open-source, so you can edit pretty much anything with code if you have the know-how.
2. Not all of them, but most have at least some form of freemium model where you can use their core functionality for free.
3. Depends on your SSL provider, if you use the free SSL that comes with the host then no.
4. They will keep their servers secure for sure, but you can still take action on WordPress and local level to help keep your site secure. Check out this article for more info on that: https://createawebsitenow.com/wordpress-security/
