This is really very helpful. One more question I want to ask you, many bad users try to check our WordPress Theme’s name by using https://whatwpthemeisthat.com. They enter the site and type our website URLs and…boom they just get all the details about the theme. Could you explain how we can hide our WordPress theme details and the plugins used by the WordPress website?

In reply to James Cabrera. The one I personally have most experience with is iThemes Security (the free version). It can do many things listed here like changing the database prefix, harden htaccess, disable the theme and plugin editor, and more. It's definitely worth checking out if you feel like doing things manually would be too intimidating for you.

Great security write-up Brenda. It was concise and I like that you listed plugin options as well as code snippets. I will be putting your tips into practice. Is there a security plugin that handles most of these items that you would recommend? What are your thoughts on plugins like iThemes Security Pro, WordFence Pro and Sucuri? I know they all slightly differ in terms of their security features and products, but was interested in knowing if you have used these and would recommend them?

This is my second blog which I am reading on WordPress Security. The first blog which I read, had written about both, securing WordPress site manually as well as using security plugins. I found this blog content better than others as it had more tips and technical techniques as compared to the first blog of template toaster.

Hey Stephen,

I strongly advise you to backup your site before doing the tweaks, but in general – I don’t think something would go horrible wrong. Just do it step-by-step and do some occasional speeds test whenever you’ve tweaked something.
